In his epitaph, Thomas Jefferson wrote that he wanted to be known for three things: The Declaration of Independence, The Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom and being the Father of the University of Virginia. But Jefferson was much more than that. He was an aristocrat, attorney, author, academic, architect, archaeologist, agriculturist, artist, astronomer, anthropologist and abolitionist? Jefferson was also a man of contradictions. While writing eloquently on liberty, freedom and independence Jefferson owned more than 600 slaves during his lifetime. The Sage of Monticello explores the many aspects of Jefferson’s life that helped shape the nation.
